| COSI
originates in 1992 from the management buy-out of "Consorzio
per l'OSI in Italia", a not-for-profit organisation
dedicated to industrial evangelisation, research and
development, and personnel training on the OSI (Open
System Interconnection) standards.
The Consorzio per l'OSI in Italia operated from 1987
to 1992 as a consortium of eleven major Italian companies
operating in the information and communication technology
sector:
- ARE
- DataConsyst
- Digicom
- Etnoteam
- Olivetti
- Hewlett Packard Italiana
- Honeywell-Bull
- CED Borsa Milano
- S.I.A. Società Interbancaria per l'Automazione
- SEVA
- Istituto Superiore delle Poste e Telecomunicazioni
Very soon the Consorzio per l'OSI in Italia became
a centre of excellence, at the national and European
level, on the Open System Interconnection (OSI) standards,
the communication networks, the use of open systems
technologies to support network-distributed applications.
Also, it actively contributed to the development of
new international standards in telematics operating
within the national and European Standards Bodies.
During the same years, Consorzio per l'OSI in Italia
joined and often coordinated several international research
and development projects regarding broadband communications,
protocol testing, and the use of open system technologies
for the design of innovative network-based applications.
At the same time, large part of its activities was dedicated
to provide its member companies above with consulting
services, professional education and training services
on the emerging ICT technologies.
In 1992, at the end of its original plan of evangelisation
and professional training on open systems technologies,
the Consorzio per l'OSI in Italia was disbanded; its
professional and administrative staff were conferred
to the present company COSI by means of a management
buy-out.
Since then COSI operates as a private, market-oriented
company maintaining in its DNA, however, the original
interest and a special attention for the world of ICT
standards and solutions based on open systems technologies:
this, we believe, is the best guarantee for the investments
that our customers deliver into our hands.
